Risk, Safety and Regulation

Whilst responsible design and operation are central to maritime safety, procedures for the assessment and control of risk are crucial to this goal.

Seaspeed undertakes a wide range of risk assessments for the design, construction and operation of fast craft based on a thorough grounding in risk assessment techniques and a broad experience of the industry. In particular Seaspeed maintains the only comprehensive database of fast ferry incidents world-wide and regularly publishes incident statistics and analysis for this industry sector.

The company has intimate knowledge of the HSC Code and other applicable regulations, and the managing director regularly attends the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) as representative of a non-governmental organisation (RINA).

The following services are regularly undertaken:

  • Passage Plan Risk Assessment (RAPP’s) including wake wash assessments
  • Master and Crew training for HSC wake wash control
  • Project Risk Assessment (for design, build and operation)
  • Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) for vessels, systems and equipment
  • Safety Case development and Formal Safety Assessment
  • HSC incident analysis
  • HSC, USCG and MCA regulatory code application and interpretation
  • RCD application and provision of compliance documentation
