Project title:
Owner’s Technical Representative for the selection and acquisition of high speed ferries.

Virtu Ferries (Malta)

To act for and represent the Owner for technical issues during the specification, design, build, trials, certification and introduction into service of a series of advanced, aluminium, high-speed catamaran ferries from 52 to 107 metres in length and with operational speeds from 35 to 45 knots.

• Development of vessel technical specification and request for proposals from designers and shipyards.
• Assessment and ranking of technical proposals, visits to shipyards and recommendations to Owner.
• Technical negotiations for agreement of build schedule, payment milestones and final contract.
• Technical review of design, drawings, specification changes, certification, progress and overall build quality at shipyard.
• Specification, attendance and review of acceptance trials.
• Overseeing post delivery technical warranty items.

• Achieving significant weight savings through review of design details and specification changes to structure, systems and decorative outfit.
• Quantifiable improvements in seakeeping achieved through technical modifications to the active ride control systems once in operation.

• Successful delivery and introduction into operation of three large high-speed ferries.
San Gwann: 52 metre, 35 knot HSC passenger ferry
Maria Dolores: 67 metre, 36 knot HSC passenger and car ferry
Jean de La Valette: 107 metre, 38 knot HSC ro-pax ferry.
• After 12 years of working with Virtu Ferries on the design and build of these three large high-speed craft, we continue to represent their technical interests in these vessels.
